You are listening to the song "People Hoard Their Blues" by A-MORTAR (the American Mortar Rock Band) which relates to how people tend not to give of themselves and censor their impulses, as opposed to the way many artists wish to bring their feelings and thoughts out in their work and lives--to STOP or pause the SONG click the two parallel vertical bars on the QuickTime player. Washburn's works are portable, storable and "hangable in real rooms" sized colorful acrylics. Most depict different "subject matter" from each other. Some are Abstract Art. The only one of her paintings that is of a traditional vase and flowers is one in which it is difficult to tell that that is the subject matter at hand. There are people in her works, some of whom are capable of flying right off the canvas and around the room. Washburn believes that the United States has yet to be recognized as a really definitive cultural locale where it is possible for artists there to produce a large body of aesthetically pleasing and intellectually enlightening and stimulating Art. She feels that it is important for all kinds of artists living in the United States to keep working and pushing the limit, and that they not fall prey to changing their work in the quest for the almighty dollar which could toll the death knell for important works of Art. She feels that if all the artists here keep making original work, then the U.S. could be a real source of innovative Fine Art and music that has depth and value. Washburn's fantasy-reality paintings each have a different story to tell. Nothing like her paintings can be seen anywhere.
